Welcome to Atherton, 

A small, affluent town located in the heart of Silicon Valley, just 20 miles south of San Francisco. It was incorporated in 1923 and named after Faxon Dean Atherton. The town was originally known as a summer retreat for wealthy San Franciscans who wanted to escape the city's foggy climate. 

Today It is known as an exclusive community with some of the highest property values in the Bay Area. Having some of the strictest zoning laws which require all homes to be on lots of at least one acre, which helps maintain the town's rural feel as well as large lush estates for which it is known.  

Atherton is a tight-knit community with a strong sense of civic pride. Atherton is home to Menlo Circus Club, a private club with tennis, swimming, and stables as well as a number of civic organizations.
